Charles Penza DC, PhD

Physician Assistant
He is a chiropractic physician and clinical director of rehabilitation at Touch of Health Medical Center. He is also an adjunct assistant research professor in the Department of Physical Therapy within the College of Public Health and Health Professions at the University of Florida and serves as extension/adjunct clinical faculty in the Palmer College of Chiropractic field training/preceptorship program.
 
As a skilled spine physician, he cares for patients with spine problems such as back or neck pain, whiplash, disc pain, radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, headache, and pregnancy-related lower back pain. Dr. Penza has nearly 15 years’ experience helping people return to productive, meaningful lives and has worked in a variety of integrated clinical settings. We are excited and happy that he joined our team in 2018.
 
Education: Dr. Penza studied exercise science at James Madison University. He graduated magna cum laude and received the clinical excellence award from Palmer College of Chiropractic. After several years working clinically in California, Rhode Island and Florida, he was accepted into the Rehabilitation Science PhD program at the University of Florida. He graduated suma cum laude and completed an NIH-funded postdoctoral fellowship training program. He received specialized training in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of the brain and spinal cord, pain neuroscience and spine rehabilitation, and is a member of the Center for Pain Research and Behavioral Health at the University of Florida. He has completed postgraduate education in acupuncture and shikantaza meditation and is licensed to provide acupuncture in the state of Florida.
He presents his research and lectures throughout Florida, the United States, and the world on various topics related to back pain, neck pain and manual therapy. He has published numerous articles in the scientific literature and contributed chapters in major rehabilitation textbooks. He is a sponsored instructor providing continuing chiropractic education through NCMIC. He is a member of the American Pain Society, International Association for the Study of Pain, Florida Chiropractic Association, American Chiropractic Association, and the World Federation of Chiropractic. Dr. Penza was selected to attend the inaugural North American Pain School.

Personal: Dr. Penza was a collegiate athlete before becoming a chiropractor and enjoys staying physically active, traveling internationally, and spending time at the beach hanging out with his
beautiful family. He lives in Winter Park with his wife, Jessica and daughter, Paloma.
